Anna Chaplain Update – Sholing was buzzing with activity for most of May as preparations got underway for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.

There were so many events to choose from!

Nothing happens without our strong team of faithful volunteers, at Classic Cuppa.

Determined that anyone and everyone would get the chance to toast the Queen, we pushed the boat out on 2nd June, a fun time was certainly enjoyed by all.

The hall was adorned with patriotic Union flag bunting, and everyone had been asked to wear something red, white, or blue. Themed tableware and some generous ladies blessed us by producing some delicious Victoria sponges. There was also a patriotic craft for those who wanted to make themselves a Jubilee bracelet. Over forty-five guests, and the atmosphere was jubilant as everyone joined in with a fun table quiz about Her Majesty and sang with great gusto the National Anthem – all the verses! We officially toasted Her Majesty with alcohol-free fizz!

Copies of a book that had been issued for Her Majesty’s ninetieth birthday

“The Queen and the King she Serves”.were available for those who might be interested in learning about the powerful faith that has sustained Queen Elizabeth all her life, and at the end of the morning, all guests received a personalised certificate to commemorate their attendance!

As for the future…

Classic Cuppa will continue to meet throughout the summer, with more knitting, more jigsaws, more tea and more cake! We regularly attract around thirty guests and new folk continue to turn up and then stay!

Meanwhile over at Monty’s Hub…

Monty’s Majors decided that they would like to have their own indoor street party on Tuesday 7th June 2022 to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  Even though, Monty’s Community Hub in Sholing, hosted a big street party on the previous weekend.

Sixteen of us gathered in the Community Hub, suitably decorated with Union flag tablecloths, napkins, bunting and flags.  During the session from the previous week, we talked about what we remembered of the food at street parties that celebrated the Coronation.

So we set to on a menu that included sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps, cake and, of course, lots of jelly and ice-cream!

I was pleased to see that there wasn’t a Spam sandwich in sight, unlike the original Coronation tea parties!

We had a lovely afternoon sitting and chatting together, over many reminiscences of previous jubilees and street parties.  To close the afternoon, we toasted to the health and wellbeing of Her Majesty, with a sparkling grape juice.  Love Marion x

Knitting News

We’ve been knitting pairs of rabbits to donate to the Naval Children’s Society, to accompany a story book they produce for the children of sailors who are deployed abroad.

We also have a very large knitting project on the go too! Last year we knitted a small Christmas tree. This year we have been challenged by our vicar to knit a TEN FOOT one!!!!

Are we up for it? You bet! And we’re making decorations for it as well!
