Caraway hosts A Taste of Spring

A Taste of SpringCaraway hosts A Taste of Spring to our community, with over 160 people joining together for our virtual interactive event.

After such a successful virtual Holiday@Home in November and knowing that a third lockdown in early in 2021 was was looming large.  The Caraway volunteer army were keen to put together another positive event.  Something for our community to look forward to “A Taste of Spring” was conceived with a diary date given.

With finishing touches to the activity packs in place and all the packs put together, ready for deliver.  Our recipients eagerly awaited the spring themed package.  Each bag consists of several craft activities along with poems, puzzles and information about Spring.  All activities are pre-prepared, ready for an easy and entertaining day.  We hope the activities continue to help pass the time throughout the rest of February.A Taste of Spring

Throughout the morning, with our team of volunteers delivering the activity bags in time for our interactive virtual get together on zoom at 3pm.  The packs distributed across Southampton, included home baked snacks for an indulgent afternoon tea.  All ready for our community to enjoy over a virtual catch up with friends in these isolated times.

Caraway hosts A Taste of Spring Interactive Zoom

With over 40 people finding a comfy spot and joining us with a cuppa and yummy treat to eat.  Caraway hosts A Taste of Spring zoom get together starting with ample opportunity for a few minutes to chat in small breakout groups.  A short Senior Saints movement session opened proceedings and an interactive singalong quickly followed.  A spring themed bingo closed zoom proceedings.

The zoom session provided some much needed light relief in the middle of February and the depths this third winter lockdown.  Our community have enjoyed the hope and optimism of A Taste of Spring brought today.  I don’t know about you, but at this time of year, not only with these dark, wet days but as the restrictions of COVID continue to hover over us, I love to look for the whisperings of spring breaking through!   The activities in these packs highlight the snowdrops peeping out from frosty grounds, the birds singing their cheery spring songs and the many other signs of new beginnings spring brings us all.  So hold tight to these signs of hope and optimism and enjoy the daffodils.  “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” Desmond Tutu

We also thank all our volunteers supporting this event,  We are unable to hold events like this without their help baking, compiling craft kits, gathering of information and delivery of packs.

Thoughts from our community…
  • “Just to thank you all at Caraway for the lovely tea and goody bag. It’s so nice to have people thinking of us. It’s almost as though we’ve been invisible this past year.”A Taste of Spring
  • “Thank you all for the bag of goodies, quizzes etc. It was appreciated. It was also strange to be on the receiving end of daffodils, usually it was the tea club leaders organising bunches of them for tea club! ”
  • “Thank you so very much for the wonderful gift bag. I shall enjoy reading it all and doing the quizzes etc.  The daffodils are in a vase and will be so pretty when they are open. I shall enjoy the cream tea with a cup of tea later on.  Thank you to you and the team.”A Taste of Spring
  • “The afternoon tea was superb, the daffodils will keep us smiling for days to come. What a wonderful collection of activities for us.  An amazing achievement for the numbers involved and area covered.  The Saints exercise section is brilliant and I shall encourage my parents to do more of the sessions online and possibly join the live sessions.”
