Our lovely Caraway community congregated last Wednesday for our beautiful Easter 22 Vintage Adventure.

It was so encouraging to see over forty of us gathering for this afternoon together. The comments made by our guests were even more heartening:

“It’s the first time I’ve felt able to come back to church”

“It’s like coming home”

As our guests arrived at Highfield Church, the Caraway Volunteer team welcomed them with big smiles, open hearts and a sparkling elderflower cordial. We had familiar faces coming for the first time, along with several people living with dementia, some with their carer’s and others without.

Worshipping together, with many hymns and readings telling the Easter story. While the symbol of the cross gently guided the storytelling throughout the afternoon.  City Chaplain for older people, Erica Roberts led the adventure with her usual verve.

Rev Erica Roberts said “The ‘wondering’ was profound and really moving as we shared the ’theology’ of the story collaboratively”

Following the service, some time for reflection was welcomed. With a selection of quiet spaces to stimulate the senses and continue the Easter journey. Essential oils recreated scents of the resurrection. While emotive prayer, verses, words and imagery expanded the sensory voyage. Across the aisle, craft stations established the opportunity to socialise and create a thought provoking take home. With a choice between a vase of handmade spring tulips or a purple cross decorated with Easter inspired bible verses, many chose both.

To end the celebrations a wonderful tea of hot cross buns and mini Easter eggs, was enjoyed without exception. It was wonderful to see our community gather and celebrate at our Easter 22 Vintage Adventure.

Luke 24: “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!”

Happy Easter!

A big thank you to Highfield Church and to everyone helping us in the background, either before, during or after this event. Without the gift of your time, we would not be able to host events like this creating happy events for our wonderful community, always @spirituallyresourcingtheolderperson!

Until next time, with an “In Celebration of the Queens 70th Jubilee” on 1st June.
