Caraway hosts Roots and Branches

Caraway hosts Roots and Branches

An intergenerational theatre show hosted by Caraway at Ascension Church

On the extra Coronation Bank Holiday, Monday 8th May 2023, Caraway will welcome Theatre for Life to a show that highlights our shared history using words and music from people living with dementia and young actors taking on the roles of this generation.

Roots & Branches is a collaborative, intergenerational and creative project between Theatre for Life, Solent Mind, Remind Dementia services and Mayfield Nurseries.

Roots and Branches celebrates real life stories across 70 years.  These have been shared by dementia groups and retold through devised theatre by this youth theatre company. Recorded audio and verbatim theatre captured during interviews with groups.  Is delicately woven into the production to also raise awareness around living with dementia.

Quotes from the audience:

  • “…it helped me understand my father’s dementia.”
  • “…an unforgettable experience!”

Caraway has been lucky to engage Roots and Branches to come and perform on an incredibly special day – the extra Bank Holiday to celebrate our King’s coronation. Join us for a story about Elizabeth’s coronation and other stories from our shared history.  This will be followed by some singing and then a tea party with homemade cakes and refreshments.

Please invite your families to come too as this show may help with intergenerational understanding of cognitive decline and dementia.
