Caraway Retreat & Prayer Day

At our Caraway Retreat & Prayer Day earlier this month over twenty gathered on a sunny morning in July. To worship together, listen to God in a period of silence and pray for the work of Caraway and the older people in our communities.

Giving us time:

  • to worship together
  • for yourself
  • to seek God for the evolving work of Caraway
  • for sharing lunch together

Our time of reflection was based on the verse from Luke 10: 27

“’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself,”

This challenged us to think about the threefold challenge of loving God, loving ourselves and loving our neighbour.

During the silence we were encouraged to use our heart, soul, strength and mind as we connected with God; some chose to sit quietly in the cool of the garden, others curled up with a book, while others embraced their creativity as they engaged with a kintsugi activity, repairing the broken with gold paint, and acknowledging God’s value and compassion for the old, frail and broken. Some had fun kneading caraway seeds into dough as we prayed about where the seeds are bearing fruit for God’s Kingdom in our city.

We closed by listening to how God had spoken to us throughout the morning and some beautiful and profound reflections were offered.

Finally, we gathered to share lunch in the sunshine, giving thanks for God’s faithfulness and looking ahead with hope and excitement for the future.
