Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, the Nurses work alongside people with dementia, their families and carers: giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions. The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline—it can help families to live more positively with dementia in the present and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.
Caraway supports the Saints Foundation with an inter-generational memory project where schoolchildren and older people come together to share lives. Generation Gains is their programme that specifically works with isolated older people over the age of 65, many of whom do not have family members or friends to rely on. They provide exercise classes at supported housing and in care homes at selected sites.
Communicare in Southampton
Communicare is a befriending service that has 25 years of experience. It is a friendly, local charity that enriches the quality of life of lonely and isolated people in and around Southampton. Their committed volunteers act as good neighbours; they offer practical and emotional support in a variety of ways at no cost to the clients. Caraway will cooperate with them in every way possible.
The Gift of Years
The Gift of Years was established in 2014 by Debbie Thrower, a well known TV and radio presenter as part of the Bible Reading Fellowship. There are now many places across the UK where Anna Chaplains work to help the spiritual needs of the older person. The Gift of Years holds a great annual gathering for ongoing training.
The Local church
Caraway works with a number of churches of many denomination across Southampton and surrounding areas. We enable facilitation of events and opportunities for older people in their area. We offer training for the roles we support, such as care home visiting, listening skills and dementia awareness.
Caraway has made links with some local schools which enables inter-generational projects. Groups of children have enjoyed being part of Holiday at Home and similar events as well as music groups and choirs. Encouraging interaction between the older and younger generations in a positive environment is an area Caraway are keen to develop.
Caraway is a registered charity. Support us to resource our older community.
