Course Overview
The Caraway Course for Carers has been specifically designed for carers of someone with a new diagnosis (within the last 2 years) of a dementia. Running alongside Caraway Memory Cafés, the course introduces how you can live well with dementia and what support networks are available throughout Southampton. Participants come to understand what it is like for the person with dementia, and to care appropriately for their needs, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Sharing with other carers is invaluable, and making new friends to help you is massive.
Course aims:
- To enable carers to meet other carers, make new friends, and gain communal support from each other.
- Help carers to understand the emotional responses that are a multiple loss situation, and give focused advice on how to cope, and how to look after yourself emotionally and spiritually.
- Help carers to understand dementias of various causes, and so learn best management of the person with dementia.
- Explain what help is available and when to ask for it.
