Southampton Dementia Festival 2022

Southampton Dementia Festival 2022 committee announces festival dates for the first two weeks of July.

Following two years of lockdown the Southampton Dementia Festival Committee is pleased to announce that the city-wide festival will be going ahead in 2022. The aim of the festival is to raise awareness and understanding of this terrible illness that affects the individual and their family often over several years. In Southampton and district there is a range of services in place and this event will highlight services that can support the person living with dementia and their carer.

Living with dementia has many significant challenges for those with dementia as well as their families. This two week festival brings a number of events across Southampton providing information on:

  • how to live well with dementia,
  • where to find out more about the illness
  • what is being done locally to provide support
  • and much more
Launch Event:  2nd July 2022

The festival takes place over two weeks in July starting on 2nd July with a launch event at Mayfield Nursery, Weston on Saturday 2nd July. Refreshments, craft activities and live music will be on offer from noon to 5pm, more details…

Events Throughout:

In partnership with some of our community partners, the festival will host many events over this two week period.  Providing a snapshot of what is available, while connecting with some of the friendly teams delivering these dementia events and services. Events organised range from picnics, craft sessions, informative events, even a seated yoga session. Full schedule as follows:

Family Friendly Fun Festival Finale: 16th July 2022,

The festival culminates on Saturday 16th July with a larger family friendly event

at St James’s Park Shirley from noon to 5pm. The festival finale offers an afternoon of entertainment, stalls and refreshments.  Along with many opportunities to share information about city wide services available for people living with dementia and their carers.

Come along and bring the family to learn more about how one can live well with dementia alongside the challenges those living with dementia and their families face. More details…
