Tea Dance Brings Joy and Laughter
St Denys Church Hall was alive with music and movement on the 7th of October as it hosted a wonderful Tea Dance to mark International Older Persons Day. The event was a joyful celebration of community and connection.
With tables laid out for tea, bunting hung across the hall, and the smell of fresh cakes in the air, guests were warmly welcomed to an afternoon filled with dancing and laughter. This was a Dementia Friendly event, held in the space of the usual St Denys Memory Café, and the team worked hard to ensure an inclusive and supportive environment for all who attended.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the chance to learn classic ballroom steps. Our fabulous dance instructors guided us through elegant waltzes and other timeless favourites, bringing back poignant memories for many.
Adding a wonderfully traditional twist to the day, a local troop of Morris Dancers gave an energetic and colourful performance, complete with jingling bells and rhythmic sticks. Their infectious enthusiasm had everyone clapping along and guests even got to try out some of the Morris steps themselves!
“This was such a fun way to bring people together,” said one attendee. “The music, the dancing – it made us feel young again.”
Thank you as ever to our amazing team of volunteers without whom these events would not be possible.
