On a blustery and wet January morning, Caraway was delighted to take part in a live community radio broadcast last Wednesday in partnership with Southampton Voluntary Services (SVS).

The broadcast offered a valuable opportunity to share more about Caraway’s chaplaincy and dementia support work, including the Anna Chaplaincy programme, and to celebrate the dedicated volunteers who support older people and those living with Dementia across Southampton.

Listeners heard about the impact of Caraway’s work in walking alongside older people, particularly those living with dementia, offering spiritual, emotional, and relational support within local communities.

The programme featured contributions from Dr Elizabeth Schroeder-Butterfill, Head of the Gerontology Department at the University of Southampton and Caraway Trustee for Volunteers; Margaret Hague, Anna Chaplain for Southampton West; and the Revd Dave Hendra, Caraway Chaplain for Dementia in Southampton. Together, they reflected on the importance of compassionate, community-based support for older people and the vital role volunteers play in making this possible.

The interview was led by Arif Faizi, presenter of Community Hour, alongside Katie Andrews, Volunteer Development Officer at Southampton Voluntary Services.

The broadcast is available to listen to online here.

Caraway is grateful to Southampton Voluntary Services for the invitation and for providing a platform to share the voices, stories, and values at the heart of our work.
