Our Holiday at Home to Ireland on 7th July was a fantastic day, bringing a little bit of the Emerald Isle to Highfield Church! From the moment our guests arrived, there was a buzz of excitement as they stepped into a church beautifully decorated with Irish-themed murals and a lovely backdrop for taking photos to remember the day.

We were all treated to a wonderful performance by the Highfield School orchestra, including a lively Irish Jig that had been specially arranged for the occasion. Andy Skinner gave a fascinating talk about the Irish beginnings of the Titanic, before Leila Hyde got everyone moving with a fun seated Irish Dance session.

Lunchtime was a real highlight, with our amazing catering team serving up a delicious Irish stew that went down a treat. There were plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained too, from making Celtic Crosses, a group puzzle, a Quiz and enjoying a lively Beetle Drive to cheering each other on in our very own Donkey Derby which caused many giggles!

The afternoon finished with some Irish Jigs on the Fiddle from Catherine Wood, and a fantastic performance from Highfield School’s Irish Dancing troupe. Their energy, talent and enthusiasm were truly heartwarming, and they had everyone smiling.

One guest said ‘Those children were just brilliant – the way their legs can move – just wonderful! And I loved all the music and the games – it was a lovely day.’

It was a day filled with laughter, music, friendship and lots of happy memories. A huge thank you to all the wonderful volunteers from Highfield Church, led by Keith Fox, and Caraway who gave their time and helped make this much-loved event so special. We couldn’t have done it without you!
