Wellbeing Volunteers for Families living with Dementia Autumn 2021

We are now eight months into our pilot project of wellbeing volunteers for families living with dementia. This project has been an enormous success of which we are immensely proud. We have a supported over seventeen families living with dementia with our small team of volunteers.

Wellbeing Volunteers for Families living with Dementia Autumn 2021 Update

Now that Southampton’s Memory cafes have reopened, our volunteers are finding that their families are benefitting from a combination of support. About half of our families living with dementia have re-joined a memory café. Half of these (a quarter in total) are keen to continue with both visiting a memory café and getting a personal 1 to 1 support call from a member of our volunteer team. We have even seen a couple of our volunteers managing to meet up at the memory cafes and continue their relationship in person.

Families living with dementia have really struggled with the multiple periods of isolation over the course of the pandemic. We are delighted to be helping make this small difference and we would love to help more. Our current team of volunteers are currently running at full capacity. We have more families living with dementia seeking support.

Would you be able to give the gift of your time? Just an hour or two a week/fortnight will make a real difference to someone else’s life?  We are actively recruiting for more volunteers for this amazing project to reach out to more families across Southampton.

If this is something you could help us with, please email caraway@caraway.uk.com, we would love to hear from you.
