Vintage Adventure

What is Vintage Adventure?

Since Easter 2017 our vision has been to build a community for those who are older. Providing a safe, creative and hospitable space, for guests with and without faith. To explore the purpose and spiritual meaning in this season of life. This is also a space that aims to be an inclusive, dementia friendly environment.

Where is Vintage Adventure?

Currently based at Highfield Church, from April 2017 until the introduction of lockdown in March 2020, we met once a month for 3 hours.

The Service

Gathering from 11am over coffee and cake, followed by a creative exploration around a biblical theme. After time for chatting and catching up with friends and making new ones. We typically gather in an open circle, spending about fifteen minutes worshipping together, with a small music group. As part of the worship, we incorporated visual story telling techniques, like Story for the Soul‘. This provides the opportunity for guests to ponder the interactive re-telling of a passage from the Bible.

Community

After this, guests had the opportunity to visit a variety of stations that help to unpack the theme further through crafts, and reflection. In addition, there was always the option to simply sit and chat over another cuppa! Around 1 pm we all gathered around beautifully decorated tables, to share a delicious light lunch. We involve our local community when possible and have appreciated contributions from other charities and agencies.

Vintage Adventure @ Home

Since May 2020 to the present, we have adapted vintage adventure to continue through extended periods of limited socialisation. We now offer Vintage Adventure @ Home packs.

These are sent free of charge to any older person who would like to receive one. Each pack is like the face-to-face gatherings, based around a theme, supplemented by creative activities, puzzles, reflections, a Worship booklet, recipe, and tea bag! Recipients are invited to use the tea bag to brew up a cuppa to enjoy, whilst browsing the materials, which can be read in any order and lend themselves to be looked at a few at a time.
